  • Paul: Were the minutes of the 2/13/2008 meeting approved? The answer was yes.

  • Corrections:

  • New committee member: Nick Minassian

    • Campus web designer, provisionally hired. The position has been approved and interviews are upcoming.

IT update (Hanh)

  • New phone system.

    • It’s anticipated the new phone system will be implemented the weekend of May 4th – 5th, available on the 6th.

    • Network re-cabling that is past due may be finished in a week or so.

    • Maury will e-mail faculty and staff about training in the next few days.

    • Nick: A Flash-based tutorial on the system will be available.

    • There will be training on April 21st in Library Conference Rm. 330

    • Paul: Will saved voice mail messages be carried over into the new system? Hanh: No.

  • HD conference room project

    • Plan to make Library Rm. 330 a high-definition video conferencing room will begin this Friday with an inspection of the site. Possibly running by summer.

    • Reiteration of comments from 3/12 meeting.

Library portal (Maury/David Garza)

  • David Jordan provided a mock-up of a possible library portal page. http://moodle.lamission.edu/course/view.php?id=261

  • David Garza: Only requirement is that usernames and passwords for subscription databases be kept secure behind a login wall.

  • Paul: It would be helpful to not only have a short online tutorial for how to use the databases, but also virtual workshops which might use the CCC confer technology.

  • Kathy: Many students are unable to attend the library workshops because of scheduling or distance difficulties.

Tech Ed. Conference (Paul)

  • Conference will be April 21 – May 1.

  • Paul will have more information for the next meeting.

  • Paul will also participate in the AT-1 online conference at Mira Costa College June 5 & 6.

  • Also a Moodle Moot in SFC on June 8th – 11th.

2003 Student Technology Survey (Maury)

  • Maury passed out an article describing research at the U. of Houston showing that hybrid classes are more effective than traditional classes. Paul asked how can we encourage faculty to use technology for student success; we are not exploiting available resources. To be discussed at next meeting.

  • The survey was an attempt to understand more about the areas in which students use technology.

  • Tabulation of the survey was made available.

  • Maury asked that we look at the survey questions and decide whether another is needed. Or, keeping it the same length, which questions to remove and what to add, maybe including questions about smart classrooms, online/blended classrooms, computer competency (also as a way of assessing SLOs). Perhaps make the next survey web-based.

  • Paul: we should increase the number of sections surveyed in order to keep the sample proportional to college growth since 2003.
