1. Discussed Intellecom digitial clip libraries - Paul Mckenna gave an oveview of the Intellicom digital clip library. The committee discussed the needs for both on campus and online faculty to introduce digital sources in the classroom and online. Currently Mission College has the second or third highest usage in the district of this resource. The library was previously offered for free, but it is now charging each of the colleges in the district $1500 per year for unlimited usage by both faculty and students. East, City and West, and other colleges have signed up for the service. Maury said that he would present the bill to the budget committee and get back to the Technology Committee with the process of submitting the bill to the Budget Committee.
2. Discussed the Etudes Bill for 2009-2010. - The college uses three different course management platforms. They are Course Compass, Moodle, and Etudes. There are a total of 85 online classes scheduled for Summer/Fall 2009. Etudes (23) - Coursecompass (26) and Moodle (35) - other (1) - so the breakdown is Etudes 28%, Coursecompass 31%, and Moodle 41%. The Committee discussed etudes, its purpose and usage, the issue of adopting one uniform platform, and other issues related to Etudes. The Committee did not arrive at a decision of whether to support etudes (for the long term). It is clear that the bill will have to be paid to continue the etudes classes in the short term. The bill is for $16,215 for 7/1/09 to 6/30/2010. Maury said that he would present the bill to the budget committee and get back to the Technology Committee with the process of submitting the bill to the Budget Committee. The Committee also decided that the DE Committee and VP of Academic Affairs will meet to discuss the matter further, and to decide whether to submit the issue also for discussion with the Educational Planning Committee ( EPC) since this is also an academic issue.
