DSPS provides special equipment when needed
Distance Education Committee is active and functional
   Smart classrooms are available

Weaknesses:
After-hours tech support is inadequate
Smart classroom training depends on only one person - on-going training is needed
DVD or support manual needed for smart classrooms
Need to know number of people trained for smart classrooms

Opportunities:
Group messaging is possible for all students in a class using a course management system
Podcasting and videoconferencing could be developed
Training in use of YouTube videos - downloading and editing
Links to online training and certification need to be made available
CCC Confer and online orientations are available

Threats:
Mike Reynolds suggests that not all faculty are as tech savvy as students

Series of workshops to teach IC skills to students

Weakness:

Continuous updates of library databases and system software

No unique user ID authentication for students to use databases off-site

Need additional layout options with omni update

Opportunities:

More wireless visitors to the library could expand the population that can be directly helped with hands-on research questions.

Threats:

Funding for computer replacement not institutionalized

Funding for database subscriptions dependent on State TTIP funds

No dedicated library instruction lab

LRC - reported by Phoebe Rivera

STRENGTHS

1.    Spacious, comfortable facility

2.    Up to date hardware- computers, printers, copiers

3.     Ample number of computers in the Computer Commons-126 computers

4.    Qualified support staff to keep hardware going

5.    Friendly and caring support staff and tutors to answer students’ questions and resolve their problems with hardware or software

6.    A good number of software programs installed on the computers, particularly in math, English and ESL.

WEAKNESSES

1.    All computers age quickly, and there is no budget line item for replacing computers as     they become obsolete or inoperative.

2.    Due to lack of funding, there are not enough tutors to adequately handle all questions and the Print Center, too.

3.    There need to be workshops on computer and internet basics periodically, but there is no budget for this.

THREATS

1.    A major barrier to our expanding our services is that the college does not recognize the importance of  budgeting for hardware.  – we are not one of the college’s budgeting priorities.  Hardware replacement is funded out of grants and other funding opportunities

2.  With the advent of Wi Fi, students are bringing their own computers on campus. Decreased usage may lead to cutting the budget, which will impact those who do not have computers.

OPPORTUNITIES

1. We can give workshops on Computer Basics and Internet Basics to increase     computer literacy and use of Learning Center computers.

6. Distance Education - David Jordan and Kathy Dawson

Strengths

DE stucture and organization set by Article 40 with goals, and is supported by College and Educational Planning Committee

DE & Curriculum work together in approving online classes to ensure high quality classes - see DE Evaluation Rubric used to review course shells under Curriculum Resources

Weaknesses

Too little support for students - online student services including bookstore, orientation, tutoring, enrollment services,

No funding allocation at the College level for our online classes

our current student course survey evaluation open to incorrect responses - needs to be made more secure and reliable

need a DE Strategic Plan which is tied into Tech Master Plan and Educational Master Plan to determine future growth, quality, retention, etc.

Department Chairs not trained in online evaluation procedures for their faculty who teach online.

Opportunities

develop and require online faculty to take online pedagogy classes to improve their online classes.

post a sample syllabus for online classes which includes all requirements.

develop new onine curriculum and certificates

some online marketing for our online classes

contact our students at start of each session with phone blast with our SARS system

every 5 years online courses should be evaluated to ensure constant improvement

more hybrid (on campus/online classes) should be developed and encouraged

Threats

Student Identification is now required by change in the law. - see http://lamc-ddl.pbwiki.com/authentican+articles

should we put all classes completely online - eg. English 101 - maybe have mid-terms and finals proctored

class size growing above 40 and compromising integrity and quality of the online classes

7. Emerging Technologies - Robert Payne

8.  Audio Visual - Terry Carter

Strengths -

Global View, allows technician to view all smart rooms from there personal computer, GLOBAL VIEW allows the viewer to check for bulb usage, filter usage, also able to remotely turn off projector from desk top and activate  dvd/vcr combo, as well as shut down the entire smart unit down from there desktop.

WEAKNESSES

one full time tech needed, we need a part time tech for evening support

inadequate Sound system  better acoustics need in the campus center, as well as a new state of the art sound system.

equipment upgrade, CSB PROJECTORS and MEDIA LINK SYSTEM 206 FOR CLOBAL VIEW ACCESS

Computers needed in CSB building classrooms, also position smart technology closer to instructors usage ( a hub is needed)

In house TV system needs repairing, outdated desk and cabling.

  SATELITE DESK NEEDS REPAIRING

Better communication between faculty and technician.

Opportunities

Upgrade insisting technology  to better suit the needs of the instructors.

Technology furniture, technology desks, white boards, Podiums, ect, ect

Instructors point of view, what they would like to have in there classrooms as a part of technology.

Bond money. Title v,  can they help us in any way ?????????

Threats

Not keeping up with our current technology will have a adverse affect to our campus, without additional support, evening instructors and campus events will be deprived of the good services.

Bookstore - Zoila Ducette-Rodriguez

Strengths

Online Bookstore allows students to check for books

electronic online ordering

electronic inventory

Weaknesses

bookstore not linked to courses (SOCO) so students do not know which book they need for class

financial aid not tied to bookstore in a timely fashion so students have to do classes without books

need updated security cameras and also sliding card system for students to use in storing books in lockers outside bookstore while purchasing items. need to look into security card feature with college ID

need to have an electronic clearing system that allows money taken out of bank account upon sale to prevent NSF check problems from students who do not have money in their check account

Opportunities

electronic connection to Admissions so students can order books

need real time status of books in online bookstore

bookstore can help sell computers and computer software to students

publishers could provide additional text copies to be place in library for use by students who need time to buy the book

could link into a text messaging system to be able to market to students, and also advise students when books ready to pick up

Threats

Bookstore can only keep ahead of Tech developments if faculty embrace new technology, our faculty is slow to develop use of technology

books very expensive, and green technology is pushing to go to electronic books, this could substantially affect book sales
